Art Takes Over - Chongqing + Shenzhen

A Beacon of Hope in Uncertain Times

In the midst of the pandemic, LMG+ and Phoenix Metropolis Media joined forces to bring a groundbreaking public art project to the people of China. ART TAKES OVER: Exhibition On-Air 2022 was a daring initiative that united 10 visionary multimedia artists from China and around the world. This pioneering exhibition transformed the urban landscape of nine major cities - Beijing, Changsha, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Wuhan - into a vibrant canvas of creativity and hope.

A New Frontier for Public Art

From March to April 2022, massive outdoor LED screens became the new frontier for public art, as artists transformed these giant displays into electronic masterpieces that reflected the unique pulse of each city. By bringing art directly to the streets, ART TAKES OVER shattered the boundaries of traditional art settings, allowing people to engage with art in a fresh and dynamic way.

A Community United

In a time when physical gatherings were limited, this aerial exhibition brought the community together, providing a much-needed respite from the isolation of the pandemic. The 10 participating artists, both local and international, shared their digital works on large screens across nine cities, creating a shared experience that transcended borders and united the nation. The participating artists were Han Rui, Han Yajuan, Lin Jiun-Ting, Luo Dan, Mao Haonan, OG Slick, Persue, Tillavision, Wang Rui and Zhang Zhen.

Each artist brought their unique perspective and style to the exhibition, showcasing the diversity and richness of contemporary digital art.

A New Chapter in Art History

This exhibition also marked a significant milestone in the evolution of digital art, which has been rapidly transforming the way we create, experience, and interact with art. From the early experiments with computer-generated imagery to the current explosion of AI, VR, AR, Metaverse, and Blockchain technologies, digital art has been pushing the boundaries of what is possible. ART TAKES OVER: Exhibition On-Air 2022 demonstrated how these technologies can be harnessed to create immersive, interactive, and dynamic art experiences that engage audiences in new and innovative ways. As technology continues to advance at an exponential rate, we can expect even more revolutionary changes in the way we experience and interact with art, both as creators and as audiences. This exhibition was a testament to the exciting possibilities that lie ahead, and a reminder that art has always been at the forefront of human innovation and progress.

A Testament to the Power of Creativity

ART TAKES OVER: Exhibition On-Air 2022 was more than just an art project - it was a testament to the power of creativity, resilience, and community. In the face of adversity, it reminded us that art can be a beacon of hope, illuminating even the darkest of times.
